MicroSludge In Detail

The MicroSludge System uses chemical pre-treatment and a cell disrupter to burst the microbial cells in WAS. The resulting liquefied WAS is readily converted to biogas in an anaerobic digester.

Pre-Treatment
Thickened WAS (4 to 10% Total Solids) is piped to the MicroSludge system and chemically conditioned for about one hour. This weakens the cell membranes. The chemicals do not inhibit digester performance.

The Cell Disrupter

The heart of the process is powerful cell disrupter that destroys the cell membranes and produces a liquefied TWAS.

Temperature Gain
The processing of WAS (SAS) through the cell disrupter has the beneficial effect of increasing the temperature by 20-25°C, thereby reducing the energy cost of pre-heating sludge prior to digestion.

Methane Production
MicroSludge results in a threefold increase in the destruction of volatile solids, compared to conventional technology, this generates a viable methane energy source for the WWTP. Methane can be used to generate heat and power, as well as for drying/pasteurizing residual biosolids. Learn more about waste-to-energy.

Modular and Scalable System
The MicroSludge system is delivered pre-assembled to the wastewater plant as skid-mounted modular units configured to meet specific plant needs. The system can be easily scaled for any size plant. Learn more about configurations.
